#19 of 191 in Museums in Berlin
You might not notice Neue Wache at first, which contains the main German memorial site for victims of war and tyranny. The best-known item in the museum is Käthe Kollwitz's sculpture "Mother with her Dead Son," on which Berlin's rain and snow falls directly. You may be left feeling a bit contemplative about the past after visiting this attraction. Make sure you are aware of the location, as some walk by without knowing what the simple building contains. • It is a monument over what had happened and two plaques describing it. If you read it fully, it should make you think. It did for me, to the point where I got emotional. Doesn't take long to visit, so do take a look.
  • Beautiful symbolic area. A mother holding her dead child, it's a metaphor that is a reality today. While in this dark room with only a ring of light from above (the heavans) you can really reflect on not only how you've been affected but how the world really hasn't changed much in terms of mothers losing their children.
