Tilsiter Lichtspiele - Programmkino & Kneipe, Berlin

3.5
#72 of 90 in Fun & Games in Berlin
Grab a snack and watch as classic movies unfold on the big screen at Tilsiter Lichtspiele - Programmkino & Kneipe. This independent movie theater first opened in 1908 as a classic arthouse cinema. Quaint and endearing, the cinema has just two small movie theatres, one with 66 seats and the other with 25, ensuring an intimate viewing experience. It aims to stray from its mainstream competitors and offers a wide variety of movies, both old and new. The theatre also has its own in-house pub, which brews its own beer. The site is known for being a spot for discussing favorite movies with a fellow movie buff over a frothy brew. Tilsiter Lichtspiele - Programmkino & Kneipe is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , international travel planner Edition.

  • All and all the place is great. If you don't mind the heavy smoke, the atmosphere can be great if you manage to breath in and out of an oxygen mask. It is so ridiculously 80's smoky, that after a...  more »

  • A nice local gem. Great atmosphere, good movies, good local beer, decent food and terrible theatre experience on warm summer nights. The bar is really nice. Their own beer brand is good and prices are decent. The crowd seems to be entirely from the neighborhood and the vibe is of a local joint. It is a smoker's bar so not much fresh air is available. The cinema shows only indie films in original languag, so catching a movie in English, or Spanish or Italian is easy enough. Subtitles will be in German. Admission is cheap. The equipment isn't for AAA action films so projector and sound system is good but isn't "Sony-Center good." Come with the right expectations. Seating is vintage including a couple of sofas. Unfortunately the viewing rooms are not air-conditioned or ventilated and summer will have you dropping sweat and gasping for air. I would not recommend watching a movie if the temperature was high that day. Even a late night will be difficult to sit through.
  • Super art cinéma and nice café bar too in Friedrichshain. It's been around for quite a long time. Excellent movie curating here. They love what they do.
