At Patounis Soap Factory, you'll learn that not all soaps are created equal. In continuous operation since the 19th century, the factory uses traditional production methods to create a line of pure olive soaps. A living reminder that family-run, traditional businesses can survive in the modern world and thrive thanks to exports, the factory still features tools and equipment from the 1890s. In the summer, you can take a free guided tour of the premises to see the production process and learn about this important local industry. Check the website for more info and opening hours. Patounis Soap Factory Reviews
You must visit this authentic soap factory in the heart of Corfu. There is a detailed tour at noon each day. The same family has been making this olive oil based soap since the 1800’s. Wonderful soap! more »
Loved getting a glimpse into the inner workings of this family run business, which has been producing soap since 1850. The free tour at noon was informative and interesting, and we were able to watch ... more »
Liked it! Great to buy a gift of olive soap as a token from Corfu to loved ones back home. Packaged in environmentally friendly card and string. Tour at noon is meant to be interesting, but we weren't there until afternoon. Worth a look inside. Don't forget to like my review 😀
Local soap company still family-owned after a few generations, worth a visit while in Corfu Town. The current owner is very knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about the history of soap making. The front part of the shop carries the line with a few olive oil based products. The back is the drying and curing stations along with the manufacturing vats (both an old wooden one and a modern steel one). Visitors are encouraged to visit the back and we luckily bumped into the owner who had his team show us how they stamped and cut the bars as well as the drying stations outside for the flakes used for creating laundry soaps. Friendly staff and really cool to see the transformation on a multi-generational business that still operates and thriving!
