Commissioned by Austrian Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria as a summer holiday home, Achilleion Museum was also home to Kaiser Wilhelm II. After her son died, Elisabeth decided to design a palace in Corfu, a favorite holiday destination. In 1890, the palace was built with a focus on the mythical hero, Achilles. Enter through the manicured gardens, which are dotted with statues representing Zeus and Hera. Inside the palace, you're greeted by a portrait of the tormented empress. You can explore her room, which is filled with its original artwork. The kaiser, who bought the home after the empress’s death, is represented in a room featuring his personal items, including his portrait and other paintings. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Gastouri holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Achilleion Museum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Belle demeure de l'impératrice d'AUTRICHE. Quelques pièces intéressantes, des escaliers centrales impressionnants. Le reste est loin d'être très remarquable, si ce n'est la vue sur la mer magnifique. more »Beautiful home of the Empress of AUTRICHE. Some interesting rooms, impressive central staircases. The rest is far from very remarkable, other than the magnificent sea view.
This palace is well worth a visit. Although the original furniture is no longer there, some of it has been replaced with replicas. There are some beautifully decorated rooms and stunning views from the gardens. You get a good idea what life here was like. Being able to climb stairs is essential.
The grounds were lovely again a wee bit pricey and also very empty and sad as when the Germans and Italians occupied this place at the time of the war they sold most of the stuff inside so you can't see the opulence. But a bond film was filmed here so interesting in that way. And so me nice sculptures and grounds for Corfu.
