Perched atop a rocky hill, Acropolis of Lindos represents natural citadel fortified over the centuries by the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and the Ottomans. Offering sweeping views of a small town's picturesque harbor, this important archaeological site contains remains of several ancient structures, the most notable of which is a Doric temple dedicated to the goddess Athena and dated to about 300 BCE. A monumental medieval wall surrounds this age-old temple and fortifications built by the Crusaders in the 14th century. The climb up to these ancient ruins can be quite arduous; you can make it a bit easier by arranging for a donkey ride up to the top. The beach is nice but crowded. Lots of shops on the up or down streets. You can even rent a donkey for difficult journeys.
Výšlap i vstupné rozhodně stojí za to. Akropole je působivá, částene zrekonstruovaná, částečně jen odhalené vykopávky. Je to kombinace středověkých a antických památek. Výhled na městečko i zátoku agi... more »The hike and the entrance fee are definitely worth it. The acropolis is impressive, partially renovated, partly only revealed excavations. It is a combination of medieval and ancient monuments. The view of the town and the bay of agios Pavlos is magical. Children can enjoy a ride on the donkey instead of a hike. There are fewer people on top in the afternoon, because by then bus tours are already gone.
Beautiful city, small, white, relaxing. Try to visit it when it's not so hot and you would enjoy it. Walk through the small street discovering their labyrinth. Maybe use donkey taxi to visit acropol. I personally prefer not to use donkeys. Still consider the weather. If it's too hot it would be hard
Really great place of ancient history of Greece. It is relatively easy to access the site, although there are some slippery steep places along the way. If you try to climb there in the middle of the summer day, bottle of drinking water is a must!
