Skellig Michael, County Kerry

4.8
Visit Skellig Michael, the larger of the two Skillig Islands, to see the natural beauty and the famous ruins of early religious settlement. The remains of the historic monastery, along with much of the Atlantic Ocean island, were named a World Heritage Site in 1996. The monastery was established on the island between the 6th and 8th century, but was abandoned in the 12th century. Take a tour of the island, weather permitting. If you like to dive, take advantage of one of the dive sites. • 1.5 hour boat ride to Great Skellig is definitely worth it. Make sure you take pills against sea sickness, if you or someone from your group have weak stomach.
  • Amazing place and an amazing trip. The seas are rough, so be warned if you get seasick. The climb up is not too strenuous if you take your time, plant each foot firmly, and don't get distracted. It is well worth it. The views and the monastery are simply incredible. It's a place you will never forget.
