Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Leinster / County Dublin / Dublin / Glasnevin Cemetery Museum
The history of Ireland is narrated by Glasnevin Cemetery Museum, home to award-winning exhibits and the guardian of personal stories for over 1.5 million people buried there. Dedicated to the known and the unknown who shaped the country's history and helped create the modern nation, the museum covers the burial rituals and beliefs of those who found their final resting place at the cemetery. While there, you can tour the graveyard itself or conduct a genealogy search for your family's history. Within the museum, pay special attention to the Milestone Gallery's timeline, an interactive exhibit outlining the lives of some of the most famous figures buried at the cemetery. A very interesting your. The tour guide, Bridget Sheerin has a wealth of knowledge & is very helpful & kind. It was an emotional visit knowing that thousands of people are buried there. The Cemetery is kept immaculate & it is a credit to Glasnevin Cemetery staff. The Museum is very informative & very well laid out. The tower is a tough climb but the view from the top is worth climbing every one of the 198 steps. The food in the Cafe is delicious. I would highly recommend a visit to Glasnevin Cemetery. 🐞🐞
The 2:30 tour and re-enactment of the Padraig Pierce speech is amazing. We have been 4 or 5 times and bring friends along when people visit. Try visiting the botanic gardens (there's a gate between the two). Finish up with tapas in the Gravediggers and a pint of Guinness. Perfect day out for those visiting dublin. Bridget is also an excellent tour guide on the cemetery tour.
