St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City

St. Peter's Basilica is not only among the most renowned works of Renaissance architecture, but it is also one of the largest churches in the world. Built over a period of about 120 years, this imposing structure was designed by several prominent Renaissance architects, including Michelangelo and Bernini. Tradition and strong historical evince hold that the tomb of Saint Peter, one of Jesus’s twelve apostles, is located directly below the altar of the church. Because of its location in the Vatican, the Pope presides at a number of services held here throughout the year, frequently drawing audiences of up to 80,000 people. Take the elevator up to the roof and then climb the 323 steps to the top of the dome, which offers sweeping views of the surrounding area. A strict dress code forbids shorts, bare shoulders, or miniskirts inside the site. • This is hands down the best cathedral that I've visited and I've visited a whole lot of cathedrals! The artworks are spectacular and the sheer size is overwhelming. I visited the place when they had a choir singing and I just fell in love with the place! The colours and the sculptures inside are breathtaking and everything is amazing. The queues can be long but the entrance is free so be grateful! Also, make sure you visit the top of the dome for incredible scenic views of the Vatican and Rome. Definitely, worth a visit when visiting Rome. Vatican City is the smallest country in the world and its history is fascinating! 11/10
  • Visiting Saint Peters Basilica is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Not only is the beauty of the church astounding, but it's also a place of prayer. While there, I was able to attend a mass behind the main altar underneath the stain glass window of the Holy Spirit. Although the mass was entirely in Italian, it was fascinating to see how so many people from around the world still worshiped in the same way. Truly an amazing place.
