Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Piazza San Marco and Scrovegni Chapel will appeal to history buffs. Step off the beaten path and head to San Giorgio Maggiore and Cannaregio. Step out of Venice with an excursion to Basilica of St. Anthony in Padua--about 38 minutes away. There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, contemplate the waterfront views at Canal Grande, admire the striking features of Basilica di San Marco, and snap pictures at Ponte di Rialto.

Start off your visit on the 8th (Sun): take in the architecture and atmosphere at Duomo di Sant'Andrea, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Cloister del Paradiso, admire the striking features of Villa Rufolo, admire the natural beauty at Villa Cimbrone Gardens, then take in the exciting artwork at Ceramiche d'Arte Carmela, and finally steep yourself in history at Duomo di Ravello. On the next day, steep yourself in history at Villa Romana e Antiquarium, enjoy the sand and surf at Spiaggia di castiglione, and then learn about winemaking at Le Vigne di Raito.
