An absolute stunning work of art depicting Queen Boudicca of the Celtic Iceni tribe riding her chariot along with her daughters who led the rebellion in AD 60-61, which resulted in total destruction..... more »
Interesting, though generic in appearance. Beautiful location to take a walk.
Fantastic and mahoosive statue atop of a large stone plinth. Situated on the North side of Westminster Bridge facing the Houses of Parliament, next to Westminster Pier and between Westminster Station and The River Thames. Queen Boudicca of the Iceni (last of the British tribes to resist invasion) ; stands proud, spear in one hand with the other raised as if to say "bring it on"; atop of her chariot with her daughters crouching behind her, two horses with nostrils flared are rearing up against the Roman invading Empire AD 60 - 61. Took 29yrs to complete by sculpture Thomas Thorneycroft. Completed 1885 but not erected until 1902. Entitled Boudica and Her Daughters. Personally I feel she is somewhat dwarfed by Westminster's other iconic attractions plus the fact that a tacky tourist attic wear kiosk stands in front of it's inscription so that tourists don't even ken the significance of whom they are looking at. This statue I feel should be four bridges up stream at Chelsea Bridge where in the 1850's whilst digging it's foundations in The Thames mud ; found hundreds of human remains and weapons of the opposing Iceni and Roman sides
