4.5
Visit one of the oldest churches in London at Church of St. Bartholomew the Great, an ancient Norman church founded in 1123. Despite having witnessed the Reformation, the Great Fire of London, and air raids from two world wars, the original structure of this building still stands. Look for the information panels in the cloister to learn more about the church's long history, including details about John Wesley's visit after was debarred from other churches. Several movies, like "Shakespeare in Love" and "Four Weddings and a Funeral," have used the church as a film setting. • The Church, a remnant of the old priory that was here from 1123 looks fascinating from the outside as you see it from the street and through the old gatehouse, but, like others here, I was...  more »
  • Sadly, I didn't get in here. I arrived at 9am based on their advertised opening times of "8.30am - 5pm every day". On the Saturday I went it was 10.30am - 4pm (and Sundays 8.30am - 8pm)  more »

  • just in the heart of the City of London you come across this beautiful piece of historic heritage. 800+ year old, this church survived the Reformation, Great Fire of London and now is still an active parish church where you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere today. Do not miss the opportunity to visit one of the oldest surviving building in London that contains pieces of Norman, Tudor and later architecture styles. Interesting fact - William Wallace was executed just near the church
  • Only way to describe it "hidden gem" . This incredible church is tucked away so well you can easily miss it. If you find it, go in. The young lady at the front was super nice and full of great facts. The interior is stunning and packed with history, whole heartedly recommend.
