Highgate Cemetery Reviews
So interesting, the history of the seven (eight) Victorian cemetaries of London and this one especially. Good guide, time spent (1,5 h) was just about right. Beautiful walks more »
Had an amazing visit here. Our tour guide was incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable, adding a whole new layer to the experience. He told us not just about the famous but the every day people who..... more »
The tour of the historic West cemetery was one of the best guided tours I had in London -- so many interesting anecdotes, I literally took notes. Both sides of the cemetery are beautiful and serene, with plenty of interesting symbols and inscriptions to explore. I recommend visiting the guided-tour-only West side first, so that you have a bit more context when exploring the East side on your own.
If you're interested in learning more about the history and inhabitants of the cemetery, I recommend paying extra for the tour. We were shown round by Andrew, who was a highly knowledgeable guide. The West side of the cemetery (which the tour gives you access to) is much more overgrown (and as a result, beautiful and atmospheric) than the East side. Taking a wander around the East side is very interesting too.
