Mauermuseum - Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie was German's only Cold War border crossing that permitted foreigners to pass through between 1961 and 1990. Though it once represented the separation of East and West Germany, this spot is now just one of the city's many tourist attractions. The checkpoint achieved mythological status because residents of the city were not allowed to use it. Look for the famous "You Are Now Leaving the American Sector" sign. This iconic marker of the past is one of the most photographed spots in the city. Nearby, you can explore the exhibits of a private museum dedicated to the checkpoint and various Berlin Wall memorabilia. Just right in the middle of the city, as you would suspect, is this piece of world history. Yes, the expected souvenir shops and schmaltz is there but also a wonderful narrative of the Cold War...

The crossing point of the east to west through the wall. Obviously the wall is now gone but the checkpoint remains. Not much to see, but we were in the vicinity and it was good to see as we passed...

This was a small museum. It was €17.50 for and adult and €9.50 for a child to get in. This price was more than the rest of our sightseeing for the day combined. There were some items related to Checkpoint Charlie and features on a few individual people. There was a good portion of the museum dedicated to new injustice in the world, including the war in Ukraine. We did not read every single display but felt we saw the whole museum in about an hour.

the souvenir shop as seen in the photographs is awesome, the museum is a joke. fifteen bucks (another additional five for a less-than-useful audio guide) for a couple of rooms filled with enough script to simply publish a book for the same price at the door. the whole exhibition is very outdated.
