Bremer Stadtmusikanten is a bronze statue of four stacked animals by Gerhard Marcks depicting the Town Musicians of Breman. In the lore of the Brothers Grimm, a donkey, dog, cat, and rooster left their farms and owners, deciding to head off together--as their own masters--to become musicians. Along their journey to Breman, they notice burglars in a cottage. They stand on one another's backs to see in the window, making a racket to scare away the burglars. Long story short: The animals end up living in the cottage (which isn't actually in Breman), fat and happy, for the rest of their days. Similar statues are in front of each of Germany's five veterinary schools. Put Bremer Stadtmusikanten on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Bremen holiday site.

  • It is a famous statue from a famous story, i get it. But the flocks of people around it makes it a nightmare to take a pic of it or with it. In the end, i think it is overrated.

  • I wasn't familiar with this tale until now. Interesting story. Very famous statue right next to the Town Hall. Lots of people lined up to take pictures with it

  • The City of Bremen is a delight. Alot to see. If you enjoyed the Grimm Fairytale "Town Musicians of Bremen" this is the perfect photo opportunity.
  • Very interesting architecture, and very interesting how old buildings have four to five floors, meaning they were sturdy built two hundred years ago, with very good craftsmanship. Definitely something to admire.
