A Frankfurt native founded one of Germany's premier art collections, Stadel Museum, in 1815. Its 600 paintings, 600 sculptures, and more than 100,000 prints and sketches represent nearly 700 years of art. You'll find a variety of styles, schools, and techniques. Look for works by Botticelli, Van Eyck, Rembrandt, and other famous artists. Art history buffs may reach nirvana in the museum's library, which contains more than 100,000 books from different eras. The gift shop sells an astounding 6,000 prints and books. The onsite cafe offers city skyline views. • Currently has an exhibition on Renoir and Rococo, which you really shouldn't miss. Art over 2 floors and many centuries. It's got paintings by very well known and not so well known artists. Only...

  • Städel is the main museum in Frankfurt, presenting a considerably large collection. One floor is dedicated to the Old Masters, but I particularly appreciate the floor dedicated to modern art, with a special attention to German Modernism. There is also a great collection of contemporary art downstairs. The temporary exhibitions are usually very informative and also worth it. I have visited the Städel more than 5 times and there is always something new to see and to learn.
  • Unfortunately I have to say that I had a not very good experience with this museum. And being more precise with the workers of it. Yes the exhibitions were excellent. Yet one of the staff members that I have met in the subway in the Frankfurt city today, Miss Nicole (the last name I cannot recall because I have not read the museum card very attentively, as she showed it to me) has been behaving very strangely. As my mask slid off and I did not notice it, she has told me to put it on properly but in a quite aggressive manner. I did that, but when I asked if she is a subway worker or a police officer her strange behaviour continued to escalate until she mentioned that I, as a non German, should not be arguing with her. Yes I am a non German and moreover I am a guest in Frankfurt city that's why I have got neither time nor any desire to solve this problem with the museum directly. That's why I am writing this review. Yet it was very frustrating to hear such things. I don't know what was the reason for such reaction on a simple question, but I would really appreciate if the mental health of the museum workers, would be taken care of. Sadly I have to tell that this situation has left a track on me and I would very unlikely visit Frankfurt or Stadel museum once more. Best Regards
