Smithwick's Experience
Visit Ireland's oldest operating brewery on Smithwick's Experience. John Smithwick founded the company in 1710. He originally brewed the beer in St. Francis Abbey Brewery. As you tour the facilities, learn about Ireland's history of brewing and see where Smithwick's beer is made. On the same site, visit St. Francis Abbey, the 13th-century structure where monks brewed ale as far back as the 1300s. When you finish touring, you'll have a chance to taste Smithwick's red ale-style beer, originally brewed for the first Kilkenny Beer Festival. Wasn't wild about the place It was ok .. One staff member very nice but the others we felt we were a nuisance !! A bit grimy / dirty .. it was just handy as there were 5 of us ..

The staff at Smithwick's were friendly and informative. The tour was quick and provided interesting history about the beer and the area. The pub area at the end of the tour was a cozy place to sit...

I've only seen this building outside and I'm sure it looks amazing.

I've been on this tour a couple of times now. It really is well detailed and the guides are very knowledgeable about the topic. Some virtual screen of the founders/actors telling their tales of how Smithwicks came to be is excellent. I've always drank stout and was never very fond of ale but the pint that you receive at the end of the tour was fabulous. So fresh and perfectly chilled. It is well worth the experience. I would highly recommend this place for a visit.
