Admire artistic tombs at Monumental Cemetery, a large cemetery opened in 1866. Several of the tombs were designed by renowned artists. Enter through the large, Neo-medieval-style Famedio that contains the tombs of some of Italy's most honored citizens. Look for the exhibit of prints, photographs, and maps outlining the cemetery's historical development. Next, wander through the cemetery to discover both contemporary and classical Italian sculptures, as well as Greek temples, elaborate obelisks, and more. Visit the Civico Mauoleo Palanti to see the memorial built for 800 Milanese killed in Nazi concentration camps. • A truly wonderful place that is 30 minutes north of Duomo Cathedral and is a pleasant escape from the busy city centre. Filled with stunning religious tombs, monuments and mausoleums, you can spend hours walking through the cemetery. I really recommend this place if you are visiting Milan and remember to bring water when the weather is hot. Plenty of shaded areas too which is nice.
  • I liked it very much. I never imagined that in a cemetery I would be able to admire so many works of art. Such a soothing place, huge and full of history, is worth a visit. There is even a map for visiting the famous tombs.
