Create an itinerary including San Giorgio Maggiore
You access San Giorgio Maggiore, a 16th-century Benedictine church, by boat. As you approach the island, notice how the structure's white marble facade contrasts with the blue of the lagoon. Enter to discover its equally bright interior. Admire several paintings by Venice-born Renaissance artist Tintoretto, as well as many other religious artworks. You can take the elevator up to the bell tower for a small fee to discover views of the Venetian Lagoon. • All the other reviews are pretty accurate. The view from the campanile was spectacular. Nice change of pace and less crowded.

  • San Grigorio Maggiore is easy to get to just one stop from San Marco. The views back of Venice are great and that would be enough to warrant a visit but there’s so much more. If climbing the bell...

  • Gorgeous place and the view on Venice is absolutely breathtaking! Definitely recommend to visit. There weren't many people during my visit so it's a nice refuge from the hectic centre of Venice.
  • The island and church of San Giorgio are a beautiful and quieter refuge from busy San Marco. It is an easy vaporetto ride from San Marco. Worth a walk around the island and church, which is one of the most beautiful in Venice, and there is a great view of San Marco and the doge’s palace from the island.
